A legal notice has been sent by an association of private schools to the election commission of India for involving the teachers of the private school in poll duty. Another Mumbai based association namely the Unaided Schools Forum has sent a legal notice to the chief electoral officer Maharashtra on the ground that despite the rulings of the Hon’ble Supreme Court that teachers should not be involved in the poll duty schools are forced to send names of teachers for the poll duty.
The Honorary Secretary of the Unaided Schools Forum has said that involvement of teachers in poll duty affects the academics. He further said that the association has also raised an objection over the use of the school premises for polls.
Through the legal notice send by the USF the ECI has been asked to refrain from sending letters to the schools seeking the names of the teachers for the poll duty as doing so would be illegal and bad in law.
