A delegation of women from Janjheli has recently approached the agriculture minister Dr. Ram Lal Markanda urging to legalize the cultivation of cannabis in Himachal Pradesh. Women are claiming that the cultivation of cannabis would help in boosting the cottage industry, as the fiber of cannabis is used in the making of various products like ropes, bags, mats and many more. The group of women who approached the agriculture minister also said that the cultivation of cannabis should be legalized in the same fashion as it has been legalized in Uttrakhand.
The State Government is claiming to be taking into consideration all the issued associated with the legalization of cannabis. The demand has even been supported by Sunder Singh Thakur a Congress MLA from Kullu. He has also said that the cultivation should be legalized after removing the psychotropic substance as the modified plant could change the lives of many residing in rural areas.
This issue has even been brought before the High Court of Himachal Pradesh.
